This session focuses on the lie that I am only as good as the latest thing that I have. Whether that be on wealth, clothes, family of origin, or even talent. The lives of young people can often look like a pendulum based on the latest craze or thing, rather than the eternal inheritance of heaven. This session to some degree will be spent highlighting the temporal nature of life amidst the eternal story of God.
The Lie that the world sells us is that if we showed who we really were, people would hate us. And so accordingly we only show of ourselves to a shallow point if at all. We become consumed by shame, and much like Adam and Even we go into hiding. But the good news is that God is a God who knows us, calls us out of hiding, and clothes us and embraces us.
This hope in this session is that young people would see and experience a taste of what freedom in God can look like. The God who already knows his creation, but wants to be known by his children!
For all of us, but particularly teenagers, we can get caught in the hamster wheel of trying to live up to expectations of others. Am I cool enough? Do I fit in? What does the cool crowd think of me?
Before we know it, our identity is all tied up in what others think about me. Not about what I think about me let alone what God thinks about me.
In this session, Andrew provides a terrific testimony, and takes us through Jesus' interactions with Bartimaeus and the implications that might have on our identity.
In this first session Charlie will spend time framing the direction of the week. Defining both what Identity actually is and how it is bestowed upon us, and more often than not we gladly receive what the world says about us. But God has a much different plan!Given the new nature of some features of camp, Charlie will be spend some time covering some administration pieces.
However the thrust of this opening session; in Jesus words in John 2 - is ‘what do you want’?
Because God wants to meet us here this week no matter why the reason you are here.
"God's love was so great that He turned up here - on earth. There are things in your life keeping you bound up from living the life that God wants for you." Ryan Graham, in this session, shares about bondage - and the freedom that Jesus provides for us.
